Benefits of Schizandra Berry Adaptogens

Schizandra Berry Benefits

Schizandra berry, which is also sometimes spelled “schisandra” has been used for thousands of years in traditional Chinese medicine. In Chinese, its name is Wu Wei Zi, which literally translates to ‘five flavor fruit’ due to the fact that the schisandra berry contains all five tastes: sweet, salty, sour, bitter and savory.

Unlike other berries, schizandra is not a fruit you would commonly eat, but is rather taken as a restorative tonic tea or in extract form. It has dozens of benefits and impacts nearly every organ system in the body, but is most well-known for boosting liver and adrenal gland function.

Other benefits include:

  • Lowering stress
  • Protecting the skin
  • Improving cognitive function
  • And boosting libido

In Russia, schizandra berries gained recognition as an adaptogenic herbs in the 1960s when it was published as an official medicine in the USSR handbook, following the discovery of its benefits in adrenal function, heart function and stress relief.

Adaptogens, as the name suggests, help restore your physiological process back to normal and help your body adapt to stress. What that means is that if you’re feeling fine, you won’t have feel any different; but when you start to feel stress, schizandra will help you feel calm and stress-free again. They’re a great healing herb to take if your body is constantly stressed, whether it’s from heavy work demands, lack of sleep, poor diet or emotional stress.

Unfortunately, this is the case for many of the young generation nowadays. That’s why at VitaMonk we created an adaptogen blend filled with many of these healing adaptogens, called AdaptoTrax™. We believe adaptogens fulfill all the criteria that make excellent dietary supplements:

  • Safe with little side effects

  • Natural

In addition to Schizandra Berries, we’ve added KSM 66 Ashwagandha, Rhodiola, Holy Basil, Siberian Ginseng, Panax Ginseng, Cordyceps and Bacopa Monnieri. They’re all wonderful adaptogens used for thousands of years in Ancient Chinese and Indian medicine designed to:

Usually a boost of energy comes in the form of a cup of coffee or tea, but caffeine is also a stressor and can make people feeling stressed out and anxious. Adaptogen supplements on the other hand don’t have this side effect.
